The Future of Hair Extensions and Wigs
In the previous chapter of this article, the "History and Origins of Hair Extensions and Wigs" I explained that hair adornments had meandered in and out of favour over thousands of years and I also predicted that the near future for Hair Extensions and Wigs will see huge change for both professionals salons and consumers.
Long Hair Represents Power and Passion
We know that as far back as the 1600's long hair represented power for both sexes. Today long hair still represents power for ladies as well as passion and femininity, whilst for men in modern society short textured hair styles represent professionalism and authority and that is not going to change any time soon.
Increasingly though technology, celebrity and the media are changing the ways ladies will achieve long hair styles. For the mainstream, yes ladies will continue to visit the salon to style and colour their natural hair, however for the traditional Hair Extension user, change is in the air.
Since the turn of the 20th century wigs have been viewed as products for medical special needs, fancy dress or costume theatre.
We Believe that things are about to change!
Over the shoulder smooth, frizz-free hair with movement and texture is going to be on trend 2010+, style junkies and fashionistas will follow celebrity trends and will move away from permanent, glued-in hair extensions and into wigs!
Celebrity is removing the stigma that has (in this century at least) afflicted the wearing of wigs and will replace it with such credence that wigs will become the new permanent hair extensions and will be the next big must-have salon service and consumer fashion accessory.
Lets face it, who wants to sit in the chair for 4 or 5 hours plus having hair extensions glued-in that will inevitably grow out within 3 months when the process will have to be repeated. Evolution in hair extensions has already moved the mainstream hair extensions user from professional fitting methods to clip-in hair extensions and the next evolutionary step is into wigs.
Wigs can more easily achieve ladies fashion goals with far less effort and disturbance..
So my prediction 2011 - 2012 is for celebrities to move away from permanent glued-in hair extensions and into wigs. This will generate much media interest and the consumer will soon follow.
